About this scenario
Age: 3-6. Category: conversation. Duration: 15 min min.
Steps
- Name body parts calmly and without embarrassment.
- Explain that help with washing, dressing, or a doctor visit can be normal, but she can still say when she feels uncomfortable.
- Practice three short phrases together: 'No', 'I do not like that', and 'I will tell my dad'.
- Name the adults she can go to right away: dad, mom, grandparent, teacher, or caregiver.
- Show in everyday moments that hugs and kisses should not be forced either.
Why this helps
Early body-safety teaching reduces shame and increases the chance that a child will use simple refusal language in a real situation. Rehearsed phrases are easier to access under stress.
Cultural note
Children are more likely to protect their voice when they see that the adults at home actually respect it.
If it gets stuck
- If direct talk feels heavy, use a toy or doll to act it out.
- Do not wait for one big talk; repeat the idea in short calm moments.
What not to do
- Do not tie body boundaries to shame or panic.
- Do not force affection for the sake of politeness.
- Do not teach that every adult is dangerous; children need both caution and trusted support.
